#SimchaSpot Unites Lost Teffilin With Owner After Being Lost for Over 10 Years!

WhatsApp-Image-20160714It was 12 o’clock at night and I was scrolling through Facebook just once more before going to sleep.

One of the things I constantly see on my feed are posts from a Facebook group that I’m part of called Lookinfor, started by Malky Rotberg from Brooklyn. It’s a group that helps people looking for something, whether it be a specific dietary food item or an emergency plumber in the middle of the night.

This particular post was posted by Meir Herman of Herman Electric, one of my Facebook friends. He posted a picture of a pair of Teffilin and wrote: “I found this pair of Teffilin about ten years ago and tried to find the owner with no luck. An organization is looking for a pair of Teffilin and before donating to them, I decided to give it one last try and post it here.”

As the Head of Marketing for SimchaSpot, I know how much of a far reach our instagram account has. I decided to repost it there.

Within 10 hours the owner was found: his sister saw the post on SimchaSpot and tagged him.

We were all overwhelmed and shocked: myself, Malky Rotberg, Meir Herman, and especially the owner of the Teffilin: Volvie Schwartz.

I got the call – “Alex, we found him!”
and I felt I just had to be there when the Teffilin was picked up. I drove all the way into Brooklyn from Lakewood for the special occasion and we all had a l’chaim together.

To top it all off, another individual that was there when the Teffilin was picked up was so inspired by the story that he decided to donate a new pair of Teffilin to the organization that needed it. He called up a sofer and ordered a pair right then and there.

The true message of this story? Never give up! Even if it’s been 10 years….
