My mother had suggested a girl named Chavi* for me while I was still in yeshiva. She was a family friend of ours and I really couldn’t see it being a shidduch. Later that week my mom sent me over to her parents house to bring over some cookies for shabbos. They invited me in and wanted to catch up and hear all about the family! They then brought up their daughter Chavi and I Immediately went into a long and completely unnecessary explanation about how I was still in yeshiva and wasn’t going to be dating for a while.
I then went on to mention how I really couldn’t see their daughter being a match for me. I looked up to see that their faces had turned white! “We wanted to tell you that our dear Chavi is actually engaged!” the dad blurted out. It was a rather uncomfortable moment. I wished them a big Mazal Tov and left as soon as I could!
